Biography
Prof. Gagan Deep Sharma is an accomplished academic, institutional leader, and literary figure with over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and higher education governance. He currently serves as Professor of Management at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), New Delhi, where he holds several key leadership positions. He is the Chairperson of the Global Ranking and Collaborations Cell (GRCC), President of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Director of the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC), Project Director for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Incharge of the University School of Fire & Industrial Safety. Additionally, he serves as the Associate Director, Office of International Affairs, reflecting his pivotal role in shaping the university’s global engagement and innovation ecosystem.
Internationally recognized for his scholarly impact, Prof. Sharma has been named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Stanford University and Elsevier. His research output includes over 100 SCOPUS-indexed publications with more than 7,800 citations, an h-index of 43, and an i10-index of 86. His academic contributions span the fields of economics, finance, sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He has served as Associate Editor, Section Editor, and Guest Editor for reputed journals including Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management (Emerald), Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Business in Society (Emerald), Social Sciences and Humanities Open (Elsevier), Resources Policy (Elsevier), and Venture Capital (Routledge), among others.
A widely sought-after speaker and visiting scholar, Prof. Sharma has held Visiting Professorships at Széchenyi István University (Hungary), University of Łódź (Poland), and UCSI University (Malaysia), and he recently completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Lebanese American University, Beirut. His academic footprint extends to research collaborations and keynote lectures at institutions in Germany, Poland, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, East Africa, and North America.
Prof. Sharma has demonstrated a unique capacity for academic leadership. Under his guidance, GGSIPU made its debut in the QS World University Rankings in 2024 and secured a significant upward trajectory in 2025, earning the ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Global Engagement’ recognitions from QS. He has successfully led high-profile events such as the Outlook Education Conclave, Smart Delhi Ideathon, and national-level cybersecurity initiatives in collaboration with the Government of India. His commitment to fostering research and innovation is reflected in his stewardship of externally funded projects supported by DAAD Germany, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), AICTE, ICSSR, and other national and international agencies.
A dedicated doctoral mentor, Prof. Sharma has supervised and is currently guiding multiple PhD scholars in topics ranging from neurofinance and artificial intelligence in stock prediction to sustainable tourism and green investment. He is a member of expert committees at DST under flagship programs such as “Science & Technology for Women” and “Women Scientist Scheme (WoS-B).”
Beyond academia, Prof. Sharma is an acclaimed Punjabi poet whose literary voice has earned national recognition. He received the prestigious Yuva Puraskar from the Sahitya Akademi (India’s National Academy of Letters) for his poetry collection Ikalla Nahin Hunda Banda. He is also the recipient of literary awards including the ‘Jagjit Singh Layalpuri Award’ and the ‘Prof. Kulwant Jagraon Award,’ and has been actively involved in community service and literary activism through organizations such as the Punjabi Sahit Academy and Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha.

Prof. Sharma holds a Ph.D. in Management from Kurukshetra University, where his research focused on risk and return in SAARC equity markets. He also holds an M.Phil and M.Com from Kurukshetra University and Panjab University, respectively. His professional memberships include the Academy of Management, British Academy of Management, Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management, and various literary bodies in Punjab.
